The solution
Working with parish and town councils, local business and community groups, a partnership team from NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, Rutland County Council and local pharmacies, took two mobile vaccination vehicles to more than 30 community locations including pub car parks and church halls between September 2023 and March 2024 to help ensure that every eligible person was able to get their vaccinations. Free transport was also provided for people to access appointments elsewhere.
The impact
Rutland achieved the highest percentage uptake in the ICB area and feedback was overwhelmingly positive:
“It was very well advertised, ensuring really good, and consistent turnout. It is very important to give everyone the best opportunity to receive their vaccines.”
“The short stays in each village meant we were able to cover a lot of ground in a short space of time without wasting too many hours, and for many people we were a much better option than travelling many miles to get their vaccination elsewhere.”
“They were well-organised, very busy days which makes it all worthwhile. You went home knowing you had a made a difference to those areas and people were keen to tell us how far some of the alternative nearest places were to get vaccinated, so we were thanked many times over.”
