New maternity app to address health inequalities

A new app, Janam, developed by a obstetrician at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, is hoping to improve perinatal health, reduce health inequalities and improve maternity outcomes for new mums from the South Asian population.
Improving detection of high blood pressure

A targeted initiative to check more patients for high blood pressure (hypertension) was successful in identifying 545 cases which had previously been undiagnosed, enabling these patients to receive treatment and monitoring, to help prevent them from having a heart attack or a stroke.

The Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland Chronic Kidney Disease Integrated Care Delivery Project (LUCID) is a novel, population-based approach to ensure equitable care for adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) It ensures that they have the right tests and are prescribed the most appropriate medicines by their local GP practice, without having to visit a hospital clinic.
